Eldest son of Rev. R. J. Statham, William was educated at Marlborough and University College, Durham (BA 1856, DMus 1876). Ordained in 1858, he served as Curate of Tunstall and Vicar of Ellesmere-port (1866-98). He was also the Organizing Choirmaster of Frodsham Deaneries Choral Association (1869-79). He composed an oratorio, church services, and songs.
