After 1915.

Staley’s family moved to Oshkosh, Wisconsin, in 1880, where he attended high school. In 1887, he enrolled at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin, where he studied for five years. In 1892, he entered the University of Wisconsin at Madison (BA 1893), and went on to earn his PhD at Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut. In 1900, he began studying law, and was admitted to the bar in Indiana and Oregon.

Staley taught Latin and Greek in Palo Alto, California; the University of Washington, Seattle; at Orchard Lake Military Academy, Orchard Lake, Michigan; and the Louisiana State Normal School. As of 1915, he was supervising principal of the public schools in Corona, California. His works include:
