Biography

Michael is the son of Paul W. Smith and Bar­ba­ra Sprad­lin, and hus­band of De­bor­ah Kay Da­vis (mar­ried 1981).

He at­tend­ed Marshall Uni­vers­ity, Hunt­ing­ton, West Vir­ginia, and re­ceived an hon­or­ary Doc­tor of Mu­sic de­gree from Al­der­son Broad­dus Col­lege, Phi­lip­pi, West Vir­gin­ia, in 1992.
