Pseudonyms
George was the son of Francis N. Simmonds and Mary R. Hollick, and husband of Nessie Maud Whitburn-Spencer (married 1913, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania).
He and Nessie were Presbyterian missionaries in Ecuador and Mexico for many years. Later, he ran a publishing company, Cánticos Escogidos, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Duarte, California. He reportedly translated over 800 hymns.
Simmonds was said to have a beautiful bass voice, singing the national anthem at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles when he was over 100 years old.
