Biography

On Sep­tem­ber 10, 1835, the First Bap­tist Church, Rich­mond, Vir­gin­ia, ap­point­ed Shuck a mis­sion­ary to Chi­na. On Se­ptem­ber 22 of that year, he sailed on the Louvre un­der the ae­gis of the Bos­ton Board of the Tri­en­ni­al Con­ven­tion, and went on to serve in Ma­cao, Hong Kong, Can­ton (now Guang­zhou), and Shan­ghai.

In 1854, he moved to Sac­ra­men­to, Ca­li­for­nia, where he worked as a mis­sion­ary to the Chi­nese there.

In 1861, Shuck moved to Barn­well Court­house, South Ca­ro­li­na, to serve as pas­tor of the Black­ville and Steel Creek church­es.
