Shankland was the Corresponding Secretary for the Tennessee Baptist Convention Woman’s Missionary Union, 1891–92, and was living in Nash­ville, Ten­nes­see, in 1896. As of 1918, she was a student at the Un­i­ver­si­ty of Southern Cal­i­for­nia. Her works in­clude:
