Son of Edwin Sandys, Archbishop of York, George was educated at St. Mary Hall and Corpus Christi College, Oxford. He traveled in Europe and Asia for some years, and in 1615 published a curious account of his experiences. After visiting America, where he was for a time the Treasurer of the British colony of Virginia, he became, on his return, a Gentleman of the Privy Chamber of Charles I. His works include:

  1. How Are the Gentiles All on Fire
  2. Lord, for Thee I Daily Cry
  3. My God, Thy Suppliant Hear
  4. Praise the Lord Enthroned on High
  5. Sing the Great Jehovah’s Praise
  6. Thou, Lord, My Witness Art
  7. Thou Who Dwell’st Enthroned Above
  8. You, Who Dwell Above the Skies
