Ryley was educated at Trinity College, Oxford (BA 1889, BMus 1891, MA 1894). Ordained a deacon in 1892, and priest in 1894, he served as Assistant Curate at Westbourne, Sussex (1892-5); Second Master at St. Michael’s College and Assistant Curate at St. Michael and All Angels, Tenbury (1895-6); Minor Canon of Gloucester Cathedral and Assistant Curate of St. Catherine’s, Gloucester (1896-1900); Minor Canon of Canterbury (1900-11); Rector of Stodmarsh (1909-11); Vicar of East Peckham (1911-29); Domestic Chaplain to the Bishop of Rochester (1929-31); Fellow of St. Michael’s, Tenbury (1917); and Hon.
