Biography

George was the son of An­dre­as Tor­ger­sen and An­drine Ca­ro­line An­ders­dat­ter Holt­er.

He gra­du­at­ed in 1861 from Lu­ther Col­lege, De­cor­ah, Io­wa, at­tend­ed Lu­ther Se­mi­na­ry and Ca­pi­tal Un­i­ver­si­ty for two years, and taught at Lu­ther Se­mi­na­ry in 1883.

He went on to serve in many posts:

He ed­ited the Unit­ed Lu­ther­an (1909–14), the Am­er­i­can Lu­ther­an Sur­vey (1914–21) and the Lu­ther­an Her­ald (from 1925).
