Died: August 16, 1873, Lancaster, Massachusetts.
William was the son of Alexander Russell and Janet Jamieson.
He emigrated from Scotland, and was in Savannah, Georgia, by 1817, and subsequently at other locations.
He was an active promoter of teachers’ associations and similar projects, and did much to further the cause of American education.
