Biography

Johann was the son of Daniel Ruopp and Katharina Reinthaler.

He studied theology at the University of Jena, where he turned to Pietism.

After graduation, he became a vicar in Lampertheim, and later a pastor in Goxwiller. There he secretly published Jesuslieder. In 1705, he was accused of sectarianism because of his pietistic attitude and was expelled from Goxwiller.

Finally, he worked at August Francke’s orphanage in Halle as an inspector for poor students and adjunct of the theological faculty.
