Biography

George was the son of Hen­ry Wells Rock­well and Mar­ga­ret Eli­za­beth Noyes. He apparently married twice, to Su­san Em­ma Lord, and Lau­ra Syl­ves­ter.

In Utica, George at­tend­ed the pub­lic schools and played the org­an at a lo­cal church, a po­si­tion he ac­cept­ed at age 14.

After leav­ing Uti­ca, he went to Al­ba­ny, New York, then to Scran­ton, Penn­syl­vania, and fi­nal­ly to Chicago, Illinois, where he be­came as­so­ci­at­ed with the Will­iams Pi­ano & Or­gan Com­pa­ny.
