Son of Gur­don & Julia Sav­age Ro­bins, Gurdon Jr. served as a lieu­ten­ant & quar­ter­mas­ter in the 17th Con­nec­ti­cut Vol­un­teer In­fan­try dur­ing the Amer­i­can ci­vil war. He la­ter be­came the ci­ty clerk in Hart­ford, Con­nec­ti­cut.
