Biography

Daniel marr­ied twice, to Ka­the­rine Burr and Fran­ces Knowl­ton Lane. He and Ka­the­rine were the par­ents of Bri­an Crane.

He at­tend­ed Ken­yon Col­lege in Gam­bier, Ohio, then served in the Am­er­ican ci­vil war (84th Ohio Vol­un­teers).

He was or­dained a Pres­by­te­ri­an Epis­co­pal dea­con in 1865, and a priest the fol­low­ing year. He served as rec­tor of St. Tho­mas Epis­co­pal Church in Bran­don, Ver­mont, and vi­car of St. Paul’s Church in Con­cord, New Hamp­shire, for al­most three de­cades.

He was al­so pre­si­dent the New Hamp­shire State His­to­ri­cal So­cie­ty.

Nor­wich Uni­ver­si­ty, North­field, Ver­mont, award­ed him a Doc­tor of Di­vi­ni­ty de­gree in 1885.
