Died: Au­gust 17, 1884, Bel­mont, Mas­sa­chu­setts.

Biography

Samuel was the son of Pe­ter Gil­man Rob­bins and Abi­gail Dowse, and hus­band of Ma­ry Eli­za Rhoades (mar­ried 1833).

He was edu­cat­ed for the min­is­try at Har­vard Di­vi­ni­ty School, Cam­bridge, Mas­sa­chu­setts.

In 1833, he be­came pas­tor of the Uni­tar­ian con­gre­ga­tion in his na­tive town, and sub­se­quent­ly held pas­tor­ates at Che­lsea (1840), Fram­ing­ham (1859), and Way­land (1867). He retired from Way­land in 1873.

Four of his hymns are giv­en in the 1868 Bos­ton Uni­tar­ian Hymn Book. These, to­ge­ther with oth­er hymns and po­et­ic­al piec­es, are in Put­nam’s 1875 Sing­ers and Songs.
