Biography

William was the son of Will­iam Reid of Mo­ney­more, and Sar­ah Wat­kins of Lon­don­der­ry, hus­band of Ed­ith Fowl­er, and father of William Reid, Jr.

Emigrating to Am­eri­ca in 1900, set­tled in the Bronx, New York, in 1904.

He was edu­cat­ed at New York Uni­ver­si­ty (BD 1915, mas­ter in jour­nal­ism, 1917).

He was with the Hymn So­ci­ety as pre­si­dent (1942–45), ex­ec­utive di­rect­or, and ed­it­or of The Hymn (1966–76).

A mem­ber of the Me­tho­dist de­nom­ina­tion, he ed­it­ed The Pas­tor’s Jour­nal, and di­rect­ed the de­no­mi­na­tion’s News Ser­vice of the Board of Mis­sions.
