Lewis was the son of Lewis Redner and Katherine Snyder.

He worked in the real estate business in Phil­a­del­phia, and played the organ at four different churches during his life. He spent the longest time (19 years) at Holy Trinity Church in Phil­a­del­phia, where he helped greatly expand the Sunday School program.
