Redhead began his musical career as a chorister at Mag­da­len College, Ox­ford. He went on to play the organ at Mar­gar­et Chapel, Lon­don (later named All Saints Church, Mar­gar­et Street). In 1864, he moved to St. Ma­ry Mag­da­lene, Pad­ding­ton, where he served as organist for 30 years.
