Biography

A com­pos­er, song­writ­er, and teach­er, Proch first stu­died for a law ca­reer, but ev­en­tu­al­ly took up the vio­lin, first per­form­ing in pub­lic in 1834 in Vi­en­na.

In 1837, he was ap­point­ed Ka­pell­meis­ter at Vi­en­na’s Jo­sef­stadt the­ater, at the court op­era in 1840, and at the Co­mic Op­e­ra in 1874.

Works

Among his songs is the well known Das Alp­en­horn. He al­so wrote the three-act co­mic op­era Ring und Maske.
