Polk is remembered as a singing school teacher, and president of the Alabama-Louisiana-Mississippi Tri-State Singing Convention in Bogalusa, Louisiana (47 years), the Arkansas-Texas Singing Convention (25 years), the National Singing Convention (5 years), and founder and president of the Gospel Singers of America School of Music in Pass Christian, Mississippi. He was part owner of the Stamps-Baxter music publishers, and compiled a number of song books for them and Zondervan. He also organized the Governor’s Singing in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, an event which drew 50,000 in 1967. His works include:
