Biography

Carl was the son of Phil­ipp Pfat­teich­er and Em­ma Spaeth, and hus­band of Lil­li­an Rock­e­fell­er.

He was edu­cat­ed at La­fay­ette Col­lege (AB 1903); Lu­ther­an Theo­lo­gic­al Se­mi­na­ry (1906); post-gra­du­ate work in Hei­del­berg and Tüb­ing­en, Ger­ma­ny (1908–10); Har­vard (AM 1913, ThD 1922); and the Uni­ver­si­ty of Frei­burg (PhD 1931).
