Victor was the husband of Ali­da Jen­nie Lin­de­borg.

He was educated at Au­gus­ta­na College, Rock Island, Il­li­nois (BS 1889, master’s degree later) and Har­vard Un­i­ver­si­ty.

He served as professor of physics and chemistry at Au­gus­ta­na College for 16 years, starting in 1890. In 1906, he joined the Rock Island Trop­ic­al Plantation Com­pa­ny, and managed a Mex­i­can rubber plantation. After the venture folded due to political instability in Mex­i­co, Pe­ter­son went into real estate and insurance.

He became head of the chemistry department of Hur­on College, South Da­ko­ta, in 1920, and retired in 1928.
