Biography

Frederic was the son of Peter Pindar Pease and Ruth H. Crocker. He married twice: to Josephine Antoinette Dolson (1859), a student at the Normal School; and Abby Jean Hunter (1887), a singer and teacher at Normal.

He studied music at Oberlin College, Ohio (which his father helped found), then moved to Ypsilanti, Michigan, in 1859. After additional study in Boston, Massachusetts, Pease returned to Ypsilanti in 1863 to become a Professor of Music at the Michigan State Normal School.

He also taught in the Ypsilanti public schools, at the Detroit Conservatory of Music, and at the Cook County Normal School, Chicago, Illinois. The Pease Auditorium concert hall at Eastern Michigan University, Ypsilanti, is named after him.
