Biography

Parry’s fa­mi­ly moved to Dan­ville, Penn­syl­van­ia, when he was 13 years old, though he oft­en re­turned to Wales.

He at­tend­ed the Roy­al Acad­e­my of Music (1868–71), was Pro­fess­or of Mu­sic at the Un­i­ver­si­ty of Wales (1873–77), and re­ceived his doc­tor­ate of mu­sic from Cam­bridge (1878).

He taught at the Un­i­ver­si­ty College of South Wales and Mon­mouth­shire (1888–1903).

His works in­clude op­er­as, or­a­to­rios, can­ta­tas, pi­a­no piec­es, and hymn tunes.
