Buried: Wal­nut Grove Ce­me­te­ry, Me­thu­en, Mas­sa­chu­setts.

Biography

Charles was the son of Hen­ry Dun­can Oli­phant and Han­nah Wood­man, and hus­band of Sa­rah Cur­tis Jen­nings.

As a young man, he worked for a while as a news­pa­per re­port­er, high school teach­er, and stu­died law.

He then at­tend­ed Yale Di­vi­ni­ty School, New Ha­ven, Con­nec­ti­cut, and in 1876 was or­dained to the Con­gre­ga­tion­al min­is­try.

He served pas­tor­ates in New Jer­sey, Con­nec­ti­cut, and at the First Con­gre­ga­tion­al church in Me­thu­en, Mas­sa­chu­setts (1884 un­til re­tir­ing in 1917).
