The 1880 census shows New­lin in Grove, Jas­per County, Il­li­nois. Copyright records indicate he was living in Winona Lake, Indiana, in 1918. At the time of his death, he was pastor of the San Mateo Pres­by­ter­i­an Church. A 1916 article in the Fort Wayne Sentinel described him as an evangelist of national reputation. His works in­clude:
