Anna was the daughter of Benjamin Munson and Mary Lawrence Sambell. She taught school in New York for many decades, retiring in 1931. In the last 20 years of her life, she began writing poetry. Her work was very well received, and she received congratulatory letters American presidents Roosevelt, Wilson, Harding, Coolidge and Hoover.

Munson often visited Ocean Grove, New Jersey, where she was involved with the Women’s Christian Temperance Union.
