Introduction

Biography

Judson was the son of Ro­bert Em­mett Moore and Ann Moore. He mar­ried three times, to Cla­ra Bar­ker, Em­ma Flo­rence Smith (May 1882) and Amy Moore Charles.

He be­gan com­pos­ing and song writ­ing around 1896. He be­came an ex­cep­tion­al­ly pro­li­fic writ­er of Gos­pel verse, tunes, and sac­red poe­try. Ov­er his lifetime, he is said to have writ­ten and pub­lished thou­sands of hymns, po­ems, and re­ci­ta­tions.

He was al­so played a sig­ni­ficant role in his home­town: Lo­cal his­tory re­cords that he pro­posed nam­ing the town af­ter the lo­cal Beth­le­hem Me­tho­dist Church, which had been es­tablished in 1796. Fol­lowing the na­ti­vi­ty theme, the town’s street were giv­en names drawn from the Christ­mas sto­ry, such as Man­ger Avenue, Star Street, and Ma­ry Street.
