Son of Will­iam Mo­ber­ly of Is­ling­ton, Charles en­tered Bal­li­ol Coll­ege, Ox­ford, at age 16 (BA 1840, MA 1843). He was or­dained a dea­con in 1846, and priest in 1848. He served as Per­pe­tu­al Cur­ate of Bees­ton, York­shire (1855-1857); As­sist­ant Mas­ter at Rug­by School (1859-1879); and Rec­tor of Coln-Ro­gers, Glou­ces­ter­shire (1879-1883).
