Biography

Charles was the son of Will­iam Mo­ber­ly of Is­ling­ton and An­na Ma­ria Pres­cott, and ne­phew of George Mo­ber­ly (1803–1885), the form­er Bi­shop of Sal­is­bu­ry.

He en­tered Bal­li­ol Col­lege, Ox­ford, at age 16 (BA 1840, MA 1843).

He was or­dained a dea­con in 1846, and priest in 1848. He served as:

• Per­pe­tu­al cu­rate of Bees­ton, York­shire (1855–57)
• As­sist­ant mas­ter at Rug­by School (1859–79)
• Rec­tor of Coln Ro­gers, Glou­ces­ter­shire (1879–83)
