Biography

Nahum was the son of Cush­ing Mitchell and Ja­net Orr, and hus­band of Nab­by La­zell.

He at­tend­ed Harvard Col­lege (BA & MA), then stu­died law at Ply­mouth.

He served as a state rep­re­sent­a­tive (1803–05 & 1839–40), judge of the Court of Com­mon Pleas (1811–21), state sen­a­tor (1813–14), mem­ber of the Gov­er­nor’s Coun­cil (1814–20), Mas­sa­chu­setts State Trea­sur­er (1822–27) and in the U.S. House of Rep­re­sent­a­tives.
