Son of John Mills, Hen­ry was ed­u­cat­ed at New Jer­sey Coll­ege, Prince­ton, where he grad­u­at­ed in 1802. Af­ter teach­ing for some time in Mor­ris­town and else­where, he was or­dained pas­tor of the Pres­by­ter­i­an Church in Wood­bridge, New Jer­sey, in 1816. Af­ter the open­ing of New York’s Au­burn The­o­lo­gi­cal Sem­in­a­ry in 1821, he was ap­point­ed Pro­fess­or of Bib­li­cal Cri­ti­cism and Ori­ent­al Lan­guag­es there, re­tir­ing in 1854. His works in­clude:
