Biography

Arthur was the son of George Mes­si­ter and Ma­ri­an S. Ma­lim, and hus­band of Mar­ga­ret S. Gad­dis.

He emi­grat­ed to Am­eri­ca in 1863, and sang in the choir at Tri­ni­ty Church in New York Ci­ty.

He lat­er played the or­gan in Poul­tney, Ver­mont; Phi­la­del­phia, Penn­syl­van­ia; and at Tri­ni­ty Church, New York Ci­ty (1866), where he served 31 years.
