Biography

McWhood re­ceived his ear­ly edu­ca­tion in New­ark, New Jer­sey.

He gra­du­at­ed from Co­lum­bia Uni­ver­si­ty, New York Ci­ty, in 1893, con­tin­u­ing there un­til 1898 as a gra­du­ate stu­dent and fel­low in psy­cho­lo­gy, stu­dy­ing un­der Mc­Dow­ell. From 1897 he as­sist­ed Mc­Dow­ell, and in 1904–10 was an ad­junct pro­fess­or.

Later, McWhood taught at Vas­sar Col­lege, Pough­keep­sie, New York (1902–07); Drew Theo­lo­gic­al Se­mi­na­ry, Ma­di­son, New Jer­sey (1907–16); the Na­tion­al Park Se­mi­na­ry, Wash­ing­ton, DC (1910–13); and New­ark High School (1913–18). In 1918, he be­came a pro­fess­or at Dart­mouth Col­lege, Ha­no­ver, New Hamp­shire.

He al­so con­duct­ed cho­rus­es, or­ches­tras, and op­era­tic per­form­anc­es.
