May was an Am­eri­can mu­sic ed­it­or, cler­gy­man, and co­mpo­ser best known for his work in re­li­gious and edu­ca­tion­al mu­sic.

He served as a mu­sic ed­it­or for the Unit­ed Breth­ren Publ­ishi­ng House and la­ter co-com­piled sev­er­al school and church hym­nals in the late 1890s.
