One of nine child­ren, Mays har­mo­nized ma­ny of the songs by writ­ten by her fa­ther. She was an ac­tive mem­ber of two Co­ve­nant church­es pas­tored by her son in Mon­ro­via, Cal­i­for­nia, and Som­er­set West, Port­land, Or­e­gon.
