Mary was the daugh­ter of George Hen­ry Hoop­er of Stan­more, Mid­dle­sex, Eng­land.

In 1841, she mar­ried Jo­seph Maude (?–1874) in St. Giles, London. Jo­seph was at one time a vi­car on the Isle of Wight, then lat­er at Chirk, and Can­on of St. Asaph (?–1887). Their daugh­ter Ed­ith Jane (1851–1927) mar­ried Fran­cis James Cha­vasse, Bi­shop of Li­ver­pool.
