Mary was the daughter of George Henry Hooper of Stanmore, Middlesex, England.
In 1841, she married Joseph Maude (?–1874) in St. Giles, London. Joseph was at one time a vicar on the Isle of Wight, then later at Chirk, and Canon of St. Asaph (?–1887). Their daughter Edith Jane (1851–1927) married Francis James Chavasse, Bishop of Liverpool.
