Charles was the bro­ther of ac­tress He­len West­ley, who ap­peared in se­ver­al mo­vies with Shir­ley Tem­ple.

For a while he was lead ed­it­or at the Ol­iv­er Dit­son mu­sic pub­lish­er in Bos­ton, Mas­sa­chu­setts.
