Biography

Robert was the son of Alex­an­der and Eli­za­beth Mac­al­is­ter.

A Cam­bridge Uni­ver­si­ty gra­du­ate, h’s pas­sion was ar­chae­o­lo­gy. He con­trib­uted to the Jour­nal of the Roy­al So­cie­ty of An­ti­quar­ies of Ire­land, and di­rect­ed digs for the Pa­les­tine Ex­ca­va­tion Fund (1900–09 & 1923–24).

He al­so played the or­gan and di­rect­ed the choir at the Ade­laide Road Pres­by­te­ri­an Church in Dub­lin, and served on the com­mit­tee that re­vised Scot­land’s The Church Hym­no­dy.
