Biography

Armas was the hus­band of Es­ter­i­ta Ma­ria von Weiss­en­berg.

He was edu­cat­ed at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Hel­sin­ki (MA 1911). He stu­died mu­sic with the Hel­sin­ki Phil­har­mon­ic So­cie­ty or­ches­tra, at the Hel­sin­ki Mu­sic Ins­ti­tute, with fur­ther stu­dy in France and Ger­ma­ny in 1919. He al­so at­tend­ed the Hel­sin­ki high school for mu­sic, and taught there (1916–52).

He served as or­gan­ist at St. John Church (1926–58), as the Hel­sin­ki Church Mu­sic Di­rect­or (1923–51), and di­rect­ed the Fin­nish Church Choir As­so­cia­tion (1931). He also served on the Hym­nal Com­mit­tee in 1930s.
