Biography

Oram was the son of Lou­is Clark­son Lyte and Re­bec­ca Mar­tin, and hus­band of Ma­ry Mc­Jun­kin (mar­ried March 26, 1872).

A ci­vil war ve­ter­an, he had a long post-war ca­reer as an ed­u­cat­or, even­tu­al­ly earn­ing mas­ter of arts and do­ctor of phi­lo­so­phy de­grees from Frank­lin & Mars­hall Col­lege in Lan­cas­ter, Penn­syl­van­ia.

He served as head of the Mil­lers­ville Nor­mal School (now Mil­lers­ville Uni­ver­si­ty), and as pre­si­dent of both of the Penn­syl­van­ia Teach­ers As­so­cia­tion and the Na­tion­al Edu­ca­tion As­so­cia­tion.
