Leech grew up in Huddersfield, Yorkshire, but at age 18 his family returned to Essex, moving to Frinton-on-Sea.
He served in the Navy, then studied at the London Bible College, Barrington College and North Park Seminary, Chicago, Illinois.
Ordained a minister in the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC), he served pastorates in Boston, Massachusetts; Montclair, New Jersey; San Francisco, California; and at the Montecito Covenant Church, Santa Barbara, California (1968–75).
He also served on the ECC’s Hymnal Commission.
