Biography

Edwin was the son of George Tho­mas Lea­ton-Blen­kin­sopp and Har­rie­t Coll­ing­wood.

He was edu­cat­ed at Uni­ver­si­ty Col­lege, Dur­ham (BA 1839, MA 1842).

Taking Ho­ly Or­ders, he be­came cur­ate of Orms­kirk, Lan­ca­shire (1844); in­cum­bent of St. James’, Lath­om, Lan­ca­shire (1851); chap­lain to the Eng­lish ar­my in Tur­key (1855); at Al­giers (1859); and at the For­ti­fi­ca­tions of Ports­mouth (1862); and rec­tor of Spring­thorpe, Lin­coln­shire (1863).

Works

Leaton-Blen­kin­sopp con­trib­ut­ed nu­mer­ous pa­pers to per­i­o­di­cals. His orig­in­al hymns, and trans­la­tions from the La­tin, ap­peared in Ly­ra Mes­si­a­ni­ca, 1864; Ly­ra Mys­ti­ca, 1865; and The Peo­ple’s Hym­nal, 1867.
