Laurentius was the son of Herr Lor­enz (or Lau­ren­ti), a bur­gess of Hu­sum.

He en­tered the Un­i­ver­si­ty of Ros­tock in 1681. A year and a half lat­er, he went to Kiel to stu­dy mu­sic.

In 1684, he was ap­point­ed can­tor and mu­sic di­rect­or at the ca­thed­ral church in Bre­men.
