Originally from Germany, Kramer studied music at the Royal Academy of Arts in Berlin, and was an assistant to Louis Lewandowski, music director at the Oranienbergerstrasse Synagogue. After emigrating to America, he directed Jewish choruses in the New York City area in the late 19th and early 20th Centuries, and was choirmaster at Congregation Shearith Israel, near New York City’s Central Park, for six decades.
