Biography

Murray was the son of John Klep­fer and Ma­til­da Jane Mur­ray, and hus­band of Ida May Wilt.

He stu­died at Dick­in­son Se­min­ary (now Ly­co­ming Col­lege), Car­lisle, Penn­syl­van­ia, and re­ceived an hon­or­ary Doc­tor of Di­vi­ni­ty de­gree from Dick­in­son Col­lege.

In 1884, he was or­dained a dea­con in the Me­tho­dist Epis­co­pal Church, Cen­tral Penn­syl­van­ia Con­fer­ence, and went on to serve pas­tor­ates in Al­too­na, Car­lisle, Har­ris­burg, Mil­ton, and oth­er ci­ties in Penn­syl­van­ia.

He taught brief­ly at Un­ion Col­lege, Bar­bour­ville, Ken­tuc­ky, and lec­tured for three years on the Chau­tau­qua cir­cuit.
