Biography

George was the son of Is­aac Kitch­in, rec­tor of St. Ste­phen’s, Naugh­ton, Suf­folk, and hus­band of Al­ice Maud Tay­lor, daugh­ter of Bridg­es Tay­lor, the Brit­ish con­sul in De­nmark.

He at­tend­ed Ips­wich Gram­mar School, King’s Col­lege School and Col­lege and Christ Church Col­lege, Ox­ford.

He served as Dean of Win­ches­ter, then Dur­ham (1909–12), and was the first Chan­cel­lor of the Uni­ver­si­ty of Dur­ham.
