Kingsbury was educated at an Independent academy in London, and became pastor of the Congregational Church, Above Bar, in Southampton, serving there 54 years. He married Mary Andrews in 1768 at All Saints Church in Southampton.

Kingsbury was one of the ministers under whose patronage John Dobell published his 1806 New Selection. To that book Kingsbury contributed two hymns; his other works include:
