Born: Jan­ua­ry 31, 1907, Bun­kie, Lou­isi­ana.

Died: Sep­tem­ber 13, 1960, St. Lou­is, Mis­sou­ri. He died just af­ter board­ing a plane to Ha­wa­ii.

Buried: Wood­lawn Me­mo­ri­al Park and Mau­so­le­um, Nash­ville, Ten­nes­see.

Biography

Gilbert was the son of James Ez­red Kee­gan and Nell­ie Eli­za­beth Winn, and hus­band of Mar­ian Al­ma Rhee Mor­gan (mar­ried 1933).

He was a gra­du­ate of North­west­ern State Col­lege, Nat­chi­toches, Lou­isi­ana (BA 1927), and South­west­ern Bap­tist Theo­lo­gic­al Se­mi­na­ry, Fort Worth, Tex­as (ThM 1933).

He served pas­tor­ates at the First Bap­tist Church, Nat­chi­to­ches, Lou­isi­ana (1932–35); Em­ma­nu­el Church, Al­ex­an­dria, Lou­isi­ana (1937–41); First Baptist Church, Long­view, Tex­as (1941–45); and Tem­ple Bap­tist Church, Los An­ge­les, Ca­li­for­nia (1945–50).

In 1945, How­ard Payne Col­lege award­ed him an hon­or­ary doc­tor’s de­gree.

He was for ma­ny years a Bap­tist youth lead­er, and in 1950, was elect­ed sec­re­ta­ry of the Stu­dent De­part­ment of the Bap­tist Sun­day School Board, Nash­ville, Ten­nes­see.

He al­so served se­ven years on the Ex­ec­u­tive Com­mit­tee of the Sou­thern Bapt­ist Con­vention, and on the Board of Trust­ees of East Tex­as Bap­tist Col­lege.
