Educated at Ches­hunt Coll­ege, John­son en­tered the Con­gre­ga­tion­al min­is­try in 1875, and in 1877 be­came the min­is­ter at Ash­ton on Mer­sey, Che­shire. He pub­lished var­i­ous sto­ries for young peo­ple, and in 1888, a Ser­vice of Song called Dibs: A Sto­ry of Young Lon­don Life.
